Diagnostics Centre at the Royal Brompton Hospital

Design and in-house delivery of three patient waiting areas

Highly commended at the European Healthcare Design Awards 2022

BAT Studio were awarded the lead arts commission for the new Diagnostic Imaging Centre at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Our role included being the interior design consultants for the building, working closely with trust arts teams and the other commissioned artists to delivery a coherent and high quality healthcare environment. The centre opened in January 2022. The brief set by the Harefield Arts charity centred on themes of biophilia and the Cherry trees that surround the site. We created bespoke marquetry bamboo and Valchromat panelling which line the walls, along with matching bamboo seating, reception desks and detailing of each floor, using bold colour for wayfinding. The project was designed and fabricated entirely by BAT Studio’s team at our studio and workshop in north London. Our inhouse team also installed the joinery, as an artisan trade, working with the buildings lead contractor Kier.

Our mixed disciplinary team, which can design, prototype, visualise and ultimately fabricate innovative high quality spaces, makes us uniquely placed to deliver ambitious spaces in demanding healthcare environments.
